Ideas about gameplay philosophy

Recommended Posts

Sometimes I wonder how would this game be if the philosophy of gameplay was different. At the moment the more you know about how to catch a specific fish the better are your chances to catch it and at a big "close-to-record" weight. Nevertheless, there is still present a significant pure luck factor or even worse "luck". Behind the scenes, there seems to be a casino style algorithm designed to sometimes let you win and other times just not, no matter what, except if you "pay" with another groundbait or powerbonus etc. I'm sure most players can understand what I mean. Just imagine how would it be if the game core instead of an internet roulette was designed to be more close to arcade style. Imho it would be much more amusing because, other than the above, it's a really nice and audiovisually relaxing game.

Good post Walker :) There is definitely a big slice of luck needed and yes I agree that it sometimes feels that game is working against the player to achieve the goal in a quick manner. An example being on the recent event where I was able to catch 2 of the 3 target fish in the first 2 casts...... it then took me 2 more groundbaits to catch the 3rd - illogical (and very frustrating!) really as the setup had been proven correct...... but then again is that not like real fishing.......... the setup you caught the big PIke on last time fails to attract anything other than smaller ones this time...... Argued against my own post!!! :) I would hope that the game is not programmed in a underhand manner to get more cash out of us.......... and at this time I still give the developers the benefit of any doubt.

Sometimes ... game.

As a gamer I would agree with you, but as a fishermen I wouldn't. In the wild it also is part skill and part luck. As a gamer I understand that a casino style algorithm for the chance to catch a specific fish is not only frustrating. It also raises a level of frustration that if you fish for hours and still didn't catch a specific fish you would like to smash you keyboard. In my opinion the casino style algorithm should be kick for a more gamer friendly one. If you do tasks or compete in a championship it should always be possible to catch the target fish with responsible wait. I've been in a championship and did I kept fishing for hours with the right equipment and bait but didn't catch the specific fish of a good wait (70+ pnts). (Don't remember when, at least 3 months ago, or what the fishspecifies was). I have to admit that I didn't play much the last 3 months(to busy with the renovation) so I don't know if that problem still happens.

I was speaking more from the gamer's perspective Kevin. As a fisherman I know I might go out there and either catch a fish, or catch a cold (or both), but this is a game, it is supposed to be fun and I think it should involve a different mechanism, more gamer friendly. And I agree with Julian too, I would gladly spend some reasonable cash for a game I enjoy (and that has some serious maintenance) but the marketing style that is used so far, just isn't my cup of tea. Why the effort to extract more money and in a sometimes offensive (imo) way from users when people already willingly pay enough?  Don't you think that others are discouraged and stop playing? Is that still a better profit? I doubt it.. Just a couple of weeks ago a friend and an active player of the last months decided to stop playing because he reached a level where he said he could no longer compete and the whole idea of spending the kind of money that was required to keep him going was not an option for him. Maybe he didn't use the best strategy but who could blame him for not bothering more and having moved to the next game? I wouldn't.. Long story short, just consider that what is gained from few dedicated players paying for every new goodie arriving at the store, maybe doesn't worth discouraging a vast amount of players (who still pay) and creating such a rep. I don't want to give the wrong impression, I say all these in a friendly way, I still consider the game to be enjoyable that's why I keep on playing it. I hope feedback, more or less pleasant, is still welcomed and just because I want to be objective I am going to close with that one. Good job with adding these rewarded ads, it gives a good opportunity to earn some game currency and shows that you don't want to discourage even those that find it difficult to buy the banknotes! I aim all the above as constructive criticism, I hope I didn't tire you too much.. Have a nice day but if the weather isn't good enjoy some indoor fishing! :)
